Ostby & Barton

Art Deco Gold, Diamond & Sapphire Gazelle Brooch

An outstandingly rare and collectible piece by Ostby & Barton, this adorable 0.2 ctw gold-rendered gazelle is artfully embellished with blue sapphire hooves and horns and white diamond spots. A charming addition to a scarf, lapel, or sweater, the gorgeous brooch is a darling addition to any jewelry collection.

Signed "OB" and weighing 12.14 g, this piece features a masterfully crafted gazelle in 18K yellow gold with 18K white gold antlers. The creature’s powerful horns and hooves are fashioned from 0.10 ctw square-shape step-cut and bezel-set sapphires, while the charming gold deer’s body is spotted with 0.10 ctw of round brilliant-cut diamonds (color: G-H; clarity: VS2-SI1).

As history has it, Ostby was a first class passenger on the Titanic in 1912.  Along with many first class passengers, he tragically did not survive the destructive iceberg collision, though this little deer did. We wonder if perhaps this deer came to New York on another journey, but imagine the sites he has seen!

A leader in fine jewelry and craftsmanship,  Ostby & Barton was actually established in 1879 in Providence, Rhode Island, and became highly collectible after closing its doors during the 1950's due to increasing cost of high quality craftsmanship and materials.

This piece is in very good condition with only minor scratching on the metal.
