The Kutchinsky family first began creating jewelry in Poland, where Hirsch Kutchinsky created pieces for the court of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The family moved in the 1890s to London's East End, where Hirsch's grandson, Joseph Kutchinsky, later joined the company in 1928. With his keen eye for diamond cutting and watch design, customer-service oriented Joseph was considered to be a key determinant of Kutchinsky's long-run success.
The company is known to be a pioneer in the use of platinum in fine jewelry, as well as in exquisite timepieces. Like Joseph himself, the detailing and craftsmanship of each Kutchinsky piece was trusted. Selling only the highest quality of designs, the Kutchinsky family soon moved their shop to the fashionable and ever-exclusive London's Knightsbridge neighborhood.Pieces were often sold to customers all around the world, especially in the Middle East.
Unfortunately, the Kutchinsky company ended after ragedy struck the family. Following the untimely death of Joseph's wife and a financial crisis in the Middle East, Joseph was forced to sell the company to Moussaieff Jewellers Ltd. Even so, a Kutchinsky boutique may still be visited in Knightsbridge on the Old Brompton Road.BACK TO SHOP
